Don’t Judge Me

Don’t judge me
You don’t know my story
Even if I enlightened you a little bit
Couldn’t walk a mile in my shoes because they’d never fit
Pause before you condemn my mistakes
It wasn’t up to you to determine the stakes
Beliefs can shape a twisted structure sans foundation
Walls painted in rumor, decorated with figments of limited imagination
Quit pretending you’re the skin beneath my mask
Truth be told you’re really not up to the task
If you glance at my face but avoid my eyes
You’ll never distinguish my truth from another’s lies
Go on and gather your distorted facts
Compliments of the usual blabbermouth hacks
Skimming the surface of my hurt
Will only feed your delusion of somehow having dirt
I’ve survived my wounds and I’m still standing
Exposing my scars will hardly improve your understanding
My cross I’ll never ask you to bear
I know better than to think you’d actually care
Pray for yourself, I’ll make my own confession
Last thing I need is your two-faced petition
Wow….powerful!

Walls painted in rumour, decorated with figments of limited imagination – I love, love the imagery of this verse. And the entire poem is so direct and bare about one’s flaws. A simple, beautifully well-written piece!
